Chiang Mai, Thailand

Hey all so we made it to Thailand!

Day 1- We arrived in Bangkok and found ourselves pretty lost and overwhelmed at first but managed to figure out the crazy city for a day. Turned out it was Big Buddha day on Wednesday so Grand Palace was closed to the public. Visited lots of different temples instead including Wat po temple, golden mount temple and marble temple which were all amazing. Managed to barter a bit with the tuk tuk drivers and were then deserted when we didnt want to buy furniature or silk scarves from their 'friends' shops! In the evening we braved a fish massage, which involved putting our feet in a tub of fish and they nibbled at your feet. Certainly not a nice feeling!Overall Bangkok pretty crazy to navigate and work out and were ready to leave for Chiang Mai after 1 day.

Day 2-Flew pretty swiftly to Chaing Mai and were greeted by a lovely couple at our current hotel who made us feel very welcome and gave us lots of maps and advice on what to do and see. In the afternoon we had a wander around town and visited Wat Pra Singh temple after sampling some pretty gross Thai food (despite our best attempts, Thai curry is not to our taste)!! In evening had a look around the Night Bazaar market which was pretty cool. There are tonnes of stalls selling everything from mini buddhas to Thai clothing. Laura has purchased a rather fetching pair of baggy green pants hehe.

Day 3- Set off on our jungle trek today. Were picked up in a truck and met with a group of about 10 others including some nice lads from Durham & Nottingham who decided to set a random object challenge. This involved each of them carrying a wierd object ie: rubber ring, dive mask, anorak, boxing gloves and most bizzarely Bingo along the 3.5 hour walk up to the village. Extremely amusing! First off we rode elephants. Ours had a little baby with it which we named Nelly. We fed them bananas and bamboo! Then we trekked for what seemed like forever till we landed at our digs at the top of a huuuuuuge hill. Had a fab view from the place which was quite a basic wooden shack. We played bingo in the evening to pass the time and had a good giggle. Then next day we did yet more walking then took a dip in a beautiful fast flowing waterfall. Then we went bamboo rafting down a big stretch of river which was super fun and the locals seemed to enjoy the custom of splashing all westerners as we passed by.

Head to Ko Tao tomorrow/ via the delightful Bangkok! Having lots of fun,

Love Laura & Lucy xxxxx
