Last weekend I went on a trip to the Garibaldi Provincial Park.
The park is to the north of Vancouver, between Squamish and Whistler. It’s dominated by the 2,678m (8,786ft) Mount Garibaldi, the tallest of the mountains in the ranges immediately north of Vancouver, but also includes the beautiful Garibaldi lake and a number of other features. Our original plan was to climb the Black Tusk, a volcanic plug north of Garibaldi Lake and the Peak itself. But we started too late in the day, and were slowed down by the heavy snow still covering much of the trail. It wasn’t expected this late in the season - there were people going up to either the Tusk or the Lake in running shoes and sandals. We’re definately going back to the area, though, hopefully to climb the Peak as well as the Black Tusk and Panorama Ridge.
It was a great day out, though - nice weather, good companions, good trail, beautiful scenery. I’ve heard Garibaldi Park praised a lot before, and it certainly deserves it.
Anyway, this the last that you’ll hear from me for a week or so. The Mt. Baker trip lined up for this weekend has been cancelled due to weather, so I’m off to the Rockies on a Greyhound tommorrow morning. I still have issues with getting a driver’s license or getting my Queensland license back off ICBC, but I’ll worry about them later.
